Advanced Web Ranking Review

Friday, March 16th, 2012

Looking for a way to track your changes in keyword rank for various terms and phrases? What about tracking your competitors? Advanced Web Ranking might be the right seo software tool for you. I gave Advanced Web Ranking a try when I started guest posting so that I could better track the results of my efforts to target certain keyword phrases.

How it Works

Advance Web Ranking works by tracking your input keywords and phrases in the search engines and providing reports based on your keyword performance.  You can tie the software to your Google Analytics account to also track traffic data.  The photo below is a screen shot of the current rank page.

Keyword research tools are included in the package to help you pick new phrases to target or to check for rank. So, aside from manually importing keywords, you can get suggestions of items to add. There are no limits on numbers of keywords or phrases or on the number of search engines to run. Below is a screen shot of the keyword tool.

The software allows reports to be generated across multiple formats and you can set for automatic emailing.

Usability

When I gave the software a try, I was quite pleased overall. First off Advanced Web Ranking is generally quite easy to use for the basic features. I was able to jump right in and get started. The reports are also detailed and easy to read. If I have any complaints it is simply that the program has so many features that it seems a bit overwhelming at first if all that you want to do is check a few keyword ranks. But once you learn your way around it, something that really doesn’t take all that long, that feeling disappears and is replaced by an appreciation of just what all it has to offer. For those who need help, a user guide is built in, although I had to play with a bit a few times to get the right help that I needed.

Pictured below is the keyword rank page:

Many different reports are offered in the system, such as keyword and search engine reports, to see the effects of your seo efforts, and one that I particularly like is the top sites report, which shows the top sites ranking for your selected keyword and search engine. You can then add these to the list of sites that you are tracking.  It is a great way to keep track of the competition!

One thing I noticed with Advance Web Ranking that some might criticize, but that I appreciate, is that it checks the ranks rather slowly. Given that search engines generally make it a violation of their terms of service to use programs that scrape their results, any software that moves too quickly is a concern.  Advanced Web Ranking purposely limits its search engine request rate in order to be more akin to human browsing, which limits negative effects on the search engine and lessens the chance of blocking.   So, before complaining that you want a lightening fast keyword rank check, consider those factors and simple go multi-task instead while your reports are running.

Advance Web Ranking offers multiple levels at multiple price points: $99 standard, $199 Professional, $399 Enterprise, and $1499 server. For details on the features of each, see the Advanced Web Ranking Purchase Page. Packages also come with some free link credits to gather data at SEOmoz.  30 day free trials are available on the site. Finally There is online and phone support available at all times.

Disclosure: I previously used a free trial before writing this  review and was offered a software license if I wrote a review.

Some email solicitations can actually be worthwhile, but it seems that more often than not, their value is highly lacking. I like to label some as SS, for stupid solicitation of the day. Here is the SS that arrived via contact form spam for me the other day on one of my large beauty product sites. I removed names and put them in parenthesis:

“(My Website) Team,
I thought you might like to know some of the reasons why you are not getting enough Social Media and Organic search engine traffic for (My Website)

1. Social profile is not available in top Social Media websites.
2. Your site has 0 Google back links, this can be improved further.
There are many additional improvements that could be made to your website, and if you would like to learn about them, and are curious to know what our working together would involve, then I would be glad to provide you with a detailed analysis in the form of a WEBSITE AUDIT REPORT for FREE.

PS1: This is onetime email and you may ask us to “REMOVE” you from our mailing list.
PS2: I found your site from online advertising but did not click.
PS3: We operate 24 x7. I will be happy to send you links to price list, 100% money back guarantee, client rankings, client testimonials, “How we are different from others?”, and “Why should you choose us?” on receiving a response from you.”

Now, let us count the lies:

(1) I actually am getting good social media and organic traffic. Is it enough? I guess people always want more, but it is enough not to hire anyone to do SEO for me, especially when I suspect that I just might know as much, if not more, about SEO than a contact form spammer.

(2) My site has a large number of Google backlinks. If you are going spam for customers, at least do your homework first. I suspect that 0 is in every one of these solicitations that they send. Or they are using one of the services or browser plugins that often go down and display 0 for that field.

(3) Since I got the letter via contact form spam, I suspect that sending an email with “remove” will simply add me to a list. Too bad that I can’t remove people from my contact form (although I suppose I could block the IP).

(4) My site could not have been found via online advertising, as I am not running any online ads at the moment. Plus, that is just plain an odd thing to include.

This all leads me to what appears to be the largest lie of them all: I have doubts that this company is one of the fastest growing in the world as it claims, or has the number of happy customers that they would lead you to believe. Not when they spam contact forms, fail to leave the actual name of the company, and send such a poorly constructed solicitation.

Please don’t fall for junk like this. If you need SEO help there are plenty of very good legitimate sources out there, and they won’t be the ones spamming your contact form seeking business.
